Since opening just a few years ago, Mendocino Farms has revolutionized what many Angelenos think of as a sandwich. The huge two-handers here are full of things like honey-roasted almonds and sliced apples and pesto vinaigrette — maybe not all in the same sandwich, but each gourmet creation is much more inspired than the usual deli meat between bread. The menu is so popular that the second Mendocino Farms is mere blocks from the first, feeding armies of Downtown office workers every weekday. (The strip mall Marina del Rey location is only slightly less frenetic.)
Mendocino Farms plans to expand across the city, something the restaurant announced by way of an informal poll on the website, asking customers where they’d like to see the next location. (The options are Third and Fairfax, Atwater Village, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach, and Studio City.) We talked to founder and owner Mario Del Pero about why the poll’s results surprised him, what the most popular item on the menu is and more.
Where will the newest Mendocino Farms be located?
This summer, we’re opening a fourth location in West Hollywood. And our big flagship store, our fifth and largest, will be at Third and Fairfax, at the new development right across the street from the Farmers’ Market. it’s going to be 3,000 square feet, with a beer and wine license, and a patio that sits right on the corner and is 500 square feet.
More here. And, Eastside Tumblrs? Solid work voting for Atwater Village. It got noticed.
